[MODULE] Improve redirection of deactivated products on PrestaShop
SEO is one of the key stages in the development of an online store. Even though PrestaShop natively integrates some very good practices to manage this point, there is one that is a real problem for merchants with a very versatile catalog.
This applies to all retailers who offer products that become obsolete after their sale, whether it's a one-off sale or a limited stock sale.
By default, PrestaShop redirects all new products to a 404 error page. So, if you deactivate a product, the visitor will end up on an error page as if you'd simply deleted the product from your catalog. This situation is not ideal for converting visitors into customers.

By using a 301 or 302 redirect to the default category, you increase the chances of offering a suitable alternative to your customers' desires, without having to do anything when you deactivate a product from your catalog. This operation can be carried out en masse, saving you a lot of time.
Of course, the best redirection would be to a specific, perfectly adapted alternative product, but this requires intervention on each product to define this alternative and cannot be done automatically.
